History

Originally part of the Snelling Military Base, what is now known as the Macalester-Groveland neighborhood featured orchards and farmlands. In the late 1800s, a railroad connection was established between St. Paul and Minneapolis and urban development followed. The neighborhood retains some of its original rural feel in Groveland and Mattocks Park and the Edgecumbe Recreational Area.
